Is it possible to go insane very quickly? or to train ones mind to?

Just a little thing i was thinking of....what if age has nothing to do with sanity? i know that children usually go insane/dangerous after a terrible accident has happened to their parents or someone they love. But what if you believe your feeble minded... are you really mentally unstable?
