At present, what's the work situation like in Brussels, Belgium?

As we all know the work situation here in the UK is pretty dismal. Back in the early '90s when I was in my early 20s, I worked in BXL (secretarial/admin), when it was the land of milk and honey. I never needed to save because money just seemed to accumulate due to high income and low tax. I was thinking of returning to find a job and keep my sanity. Does anyone know about the job situation at the moment, also amount of tax payable and cost of renting a small apartment?
