Help me now please, is there something wrong with my kidneys?

My back doesn't hurt, I was just feeling around and on the left side of my body, I felt like a knot like my ribcage, right on top or near my last rib, about 4-5 inches from my spine, it is not on the other side, it really is faint and is as hard as bone, thought it was a extra rib. my fiancee thinks I am delusional in thinking it is a tumor cause he said your kidneys are protected by your muscle and ribcage and you wouldn't be able to feel a tumor on your kidneys with your hand, plus he said he couldn't feel anything but rib and that is what I felt apparently. Am I making a big deal out of nothing? does this sound like a kidney tumor ? If so or not,why?
