Does Campbeltown, Argyll need a ferry service?

For those who don't know -Campbeltown is a very remote town situated at the end of the Mull of Kintyre. It's a 3 and a half hour drive from Campbeltown to Glasgow ( the nearest city). There used to be a ferry service to Ballycastle in Northern Ireland but this service was withdrawn. There is now a small rib with connections to Troon in Ayrshire and Ballycastle but it can only take 12 people. What do you say to a ferry service?
