Do you think that Journalism is a dying field?
I just want to know everyone's opinions on this subject because after I graduate high school this year, I planned on majoring in Journalism in college, eventually planning and hoping to become a news correspondent, the people you see on the news every day that gives weather, sports, traffic, daily happenings, etc. I was also hoping to become a freelance writer with a company like Triple Crown Publications, because I love to write fiction as well as report news to others. Another thing I was hoping to be able to experiment with was international journalism, you know, the people that the US sends over to the different countries to get reports on what's happening over there. But everywhere I look, people are saying 'Journalism is dying' and 'Don't waste your time. There are no jobs out there in that field.' Is this true? I mean, I love this field and I want to major in it, but I also know that majoring in a field that makes no money is going to be rough, because I'm going to need to take care of myself after college as far as a place to stay, etc. So, what are your opinions on it, do you think the field is dying? Should I major in something else instead? One of my friends offered that I should maybe do a double major, Journalism and something else too. So that way, I can major in what I love but also have a backup plan. Thanks for everything.
